What areas can be treated?

The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight. Most people ask for treatments on the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, and shoulders.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, and Dr. Garcia will personalize a plan based on the level of improvement you desire.

Most clients need 2-3 initial corrective treatments to achieve maximal clearance of unwanted pigmentation and redness from the skin.  These results are then best maintained with 3 Forever Young maintenance treatments per year. A clinical study¹ conducted at Stanford between 2004 and 2013 showed that regular treatment with BBL had a significant anti-aging effect. Two to four yearly treatments were given, and at the end of the nine-year study, the patients did not look any older. They either looked younger or the same as they did when they began the study. It was concluded that regular treatments with broadband light significantly slows down the skin’s aging process. Both of these studies were performed with Sciton’s BBL device by dermatologist Patrick Bitter, Jr, MD. A second study out of Stanford that same year showed that regular treatments with BBL two to four times a year could make your skin regain its youthful characteristics and halt further aging. BBL treatments were used to turn on over 1,900 skin genes that had been turned off due to skin aging. This change made older skin look more youthful thanks to the increase in collagen production.²

What will happen during the procedure?

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. Typically, there is no need for a topical anesthetic. You may feel a quick, warm sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

How long will it take to recover?

This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you are able to apply makeup, return to work and resume most of your activities immediately.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated area followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments and the area treated.
